Bio:
Joel Nichols is the Vice President of Information Systems at Quanterix in the Boston area. With 20+ years of experience in the Bio/Pharma industry, Joel has delivered multiple keynote speeches at IoT and Bio/Pharma events. Joel began his career supporting quality control (QC) labs with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and later laboratory execution systems (LES) for Eli Lilly and Company. He transitioned from lab work into more manufacturing systems which led him into learning more about the process and operations within a plant. Joel later expanded into finance and supply chain activities with a move to support M&A activities. After working at multiple manufacturing plants, Joel joined the largest greenfield manufacturing facility by Baxalta/Shire in Covington Georgia. Here he led the MES (manufacturing execution systems) and eventually all of IT activities. Joel moved to Massachusetts in 2016 where he joined Millipore as the head of software and automation. There, Joel grew a team of 10 people to nearly 200 while leading the digital transformation of Bioprocessing within the company. He was awarded the CIO “Ones to Watch” award for 2019. After setting up the IT strategy for Elevate Bio (a Cambridge, MA cell and gene therapy company) in 2019, Joel continued consulting with other BioPharma clients. In early 2020, Joel joined Quanterix where he is helping to establish the internal IT strategy while bringing digital transformation to the Quanterix family of Simoa instruments.
